Responsibilities Oversees the day-to-day department operations, including preventative maintenance, testing, repair, calibration, and documentation. Maintains scheduling of BMET team members. Manages recruitment, evaluations, and disciplinary action of BMET team members. Tests and calibrates medical devices prior to use in patient care areas (preventive maintenance). Troubleshoots medical devices in a clinical setting and/or bench/depot setting (corrective maintenance). Evaluates, selects, installs, and inspects new trial and/or demonstration medical devices prior to use (incoming inspection). Ensures compliance with regulatory processes necessary (e.g., CMS, FDA, GMP, NJDOH). Supports integration with medical device software/hardware systems (e.g., Networking, Cyber Security, Integration Specialist). Conducts investigations and provides feedback related to patient care medical device incidents in accordance with HMH policy. Educates team in the proper use, care and maintenance of medical devices. Reviews technical manuals and educates the team for understanding. Documents all maintenance and repairs and maintains records of maintenance activities. Troubleshoots medical device networks. Maintains inventory of repair parts, supplies, and technical resources. Orders repair parts and/or components and supplies as required using HMH ERP system(s). Maintains incoming and outgoing equipment log for repair and maintenance. Transports devices or arranges transportation of devices maintained by BMET as needed to ensure safe operation or storage. Stays informed of changes, enhancements, new features and versions related to equipment and machines used. Attends on-the-job training as well as offsite and/or out-of-state training that may require travel and overnight stays. Travels to other HMH locations as needed. Manages compliance with departmental SLA regarding response and resolution time. Monitors equipment support contracts for performance and cost savings opportunities. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6.0 hours per day. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required BS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 8 years BMET work experience, or AS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 10 years BMET work experience, or completion of U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program with 10 years full-time BMET work experience, or High School diploma/GED with 12 years BMET work experience. Demonstrated understanding of FDA, Joint Commission, CMMS, and NJDOH standards. Demonstrated understanding of electronic/mechanical devices. Ability to communicate the use of all patient care medical devices. Ability to locate and follow manufacturer documentation used to support devices. Understanding of computerized maintenance management systems. Ability to access public FDA 510k information about patient care medical devices. Knowledge of device recalls and their purpose. Customer service principles; understands operations of the supported environment (hospital/clinic). Unrestricted ability to attend on-the-job and offsite training requiring travel, including overnight stays. Basic understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. Knowledge of various types of patient care medical equipment and related risks. Basic understanding of patient care medical equipment, radiographic equipment, laboratory equipment, and network equipment. Basic terminology used in project management; capable of leading others in a clinical environment. Experience with a wide range of medical devices, electromechanical devices, computers, networks, and software used in healthcare delivery. Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred AS Degree or higher with 10 years full-time BMET work experience. Extensive knowledge of Joint Commission, CMMS, and NJDOH standards. Full-time BMET Supervisory experience. Licenses And Certifications Required Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
