Supervisor Medical Laboratory Assistant

Job Description

Laboratory Technician

Perform in all areas involved in pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic testing. Maintain the policies and procedures as technical supervisor in assigned areas of the laboratory to ensure that all regulatory requirements are maintained. Perform routine clinical tests, collect blood samples, prepare media, report results.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure absolute patient identification and match with required test; perform specimen collection, ensuring high customer service and strict attention to accuracy, integrity, and quality
  • Supervise phlebotomist daily performance
  • Prepare samples outsourced to another laboratory, i.e. Quest send-outs.
  • In charge of laboratory safety compliance.
  • Follow established QC program within parameters for acceptable levels of performance, ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout specimen analysis and monitor test analysis and specimen examinations through evaluation of QC records
  • Schedule patients for testing to maximize the best use of laboratory resources while making the best possible accommodation for the needs of the patients
  • Select test methodology appropriate for clinical use of test result and perform and validate tests of body fluids and substances to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease
  • Perform drug testing and waived screening
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School, Associate's Degree preferred. Program: Laboratory medicine

Experience: General: 5 year(s) working as a phlebotomist, medical lab assistant, or similar work. Supervisory: 2 (years)

Must have both general and supervisory experience if indicated.

Credentials: AMT, ASCP, or other Appropriate Training Certificate

Working Conditions

Work is conducted in a standard clinical environment to include exposure to latex, biohazard or other harmful substances
