Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day department operations, including preventative maintenance, testing, repair, calibration, and documentation.
Maintain scheduling of BMET team members.
Manage recruitment, evaluations, and disciplinary action of BMET team members.
Test and calibrate medical devices prior to use in patient care areas (preventive maintenance).
Troubleshoot medical devices in a clinical setting and/or bench/depot setting (corrective maintenance).
Evaluate, select, install, and inspect new trial and/or demonstration medical devices prior to use (incoming inspection).
Ensure compliance with all regulatory processes necessary (i.e., CMS, FDA, GMP, NJDOH, etc.).
Support integration with medical device software/hardware systems (i.e., Networking, Cyber Security, Integration Specialist, etc.).
Conduct investigations and provide feedback related to patient care medical device incidents in accordance with HMH policy.
Educate team in the proper use, care and maintenance of medical devices.
Review technical manuals and educate the team for understanding.
Document all maintenance and repairs and maintain records of maintenance activities.
Troubleshoot medical device networks.
Maintain inventory or repair parts, supplies, and technical resources.
Order repair parts and/or components and supplies as required using HMH ERP system(s).
Maintain incoming and outgoing equipment log for repair and maintenance.
Transport devices or arrange the transportation of devices maintained by BMET as needed to ensure safe operation or storage of devices.
Actively stay informed and keep abreast of changes, enhancements, new features and versions related to the equipment and machines used.
Attend on-the-job training as well as offsite and/or out-of-state training that may require travel and may include overnight stays.
Travel to other HMH locations (i.e., hospitals, urgent care, primary care, etc.) as needed.
Manage compliance with departmental SLA response and resolution time.
Monitor equipment support contracts for performance and cost savings opportunities.
Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Lift a minimum of 50 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6.0 hours a day.
Qualifications
BS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 8 years BMET work experience, OR AS degree with 10 years BMET work experience, OR U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program completion with 10 years full-time BMET work experience, OR High School diploma or GED with 12 years BMET work experience.
Demonstrated understanding of FDA, Joint Commission, CMMS, and NJDOH standards.
Demonstrated understanding of electronic/mechanical devices.
Demonstrated ability to communicate the use of all patient care medical devices.
Demonstrated ability to locate and follow manufacturer documentation used to support devices.
Demonstrated understanding of computerized maintenance management systems.
Demonstrated ability to access public FDA 510(k) information about patient care medical devices.
Demonstrated knowledge of device recalls and their purpose.
Exhibits understanding and supports customer service principles.
Familiar with the operations and environment they support (hospital, clinic, etc.).
Unrestricted ability to attend on-the-job training as well as offsite and/or out-of-state training requiring travel.
Demonstrated basic understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge of various types of patient care medical equipment and associated risks.
Demonstrated basic understanding of patient care medical equipment, radiographic equipment, laboratory equipment, and network equipment.
Demonstrated basic terminology used in project management.
Has advanced experience in their assigned clinical environment.
Experience in a wide range of medical devices, electromechanical devices, computers, networks, and software used in the delivery of healthcare and leadership of other BMET team members.
Preferred Qualifications
AS Degree or higher with 10 years full-time BMET work experience.
Extensive knowledge of Joint Commission, CMMS, and NJDOH standards.
Full-time BMET supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
