Description RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of your application:
- Livingston County, or
- One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben, Wyoming, Orleans, Wayne, Cattaraugus, Erie, Niagara, Seneca, Yates, Schuyler, and Chemung
The work involves responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of shift operations of the Livingston County Emergency Medical Services for one or more assigned shifts. This is a lead and participate position. The incumbent will be a working supervisor who supervises shift staff and participates in advanced life support services work. The incumbent will also coordinate the provision of emergency medical services within Livingston County with other emergency medical services agencies and providers for specific shifts. Work is performed in the office and in the field. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel. The work is performed under the clinical supervision of the Supervising Advanced Life Support Technician and the administrative supervision of the Emergency Medical Services Director. An Emergency Medical Shift Supervisor does related work as assigned.
Examples of Duties- Supervises staff and directs operations on assigned shift(s);
- Coordinates the provision of County staff in support of the response of other emergency medical services agencies;
- Maintains personnel and training files for staff;
- Oversees staff performance and provides training, counseling and discipline of subordinate staff as needed;
- Responds to and professionally delivers appropriate and required emergency patient care to persons suffering from trauma and/or medical emergencies in various and sometimes physically demanding situations;
- Communicates findings to, and requests medical direction from, a medical control physician;
- Calculates weight and volume ratios for medication administration;
- Documents and orally reports emergency care provided;
- Communicates with (or interviews) patients, patient's family members, and bystanders as necessary;
- Assesses emergency scenes for responder safety, determines if additional emergency resources are required and, if so, requests such resources;
- Supervises, coordinates and/or collaborates with County staff and other emergency care providers and assists with necessary patient care at the basic and advanced level as required in specific emergency situations;
- Adheres to departmental customer service standards;
- Ensures that customer service standards are adhered to by all staff within the assigned span of control;
- Determines appropriate corrective measures and ensures follow-through;
- Properly and safely operates emergency response motor vehicles in the performance of emergency response duties;
- Assists with and/or oversees a quality assurance program as directed;
- Works on the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement program for the Livingston County Emergency Medical Services;
- Assists with and/or oversees agency training programs as directed, including, but not limited to, the development of training programs and conducting and/or participating in such programs;
- Acts as a controlled substance agent for the controlled substance program including, but not limited to, overseeing and taking responsibility for narcotic medication possession and dispensation by the agency as well as related documentation as directed;
- Attends agency staff meetings and trainings;
- Attends required local and regional meetings;
- Complies with mandatory monthly and yearly training requirements;
- Assists with the scheduling of staff as directed;
- Maintains and orders adequate stock of medications and supplies;
- Ensures proper operation of emergency medical equipment and performs required maintenance checks, light maintenance and cleaning of medical equipment;
- Performs required cleaning and maintains order of work and storage areas;
- Oversees the vehicle fleet and performs required maintenance checks, light maintenance and cleaning of response vehicles; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment:
Qualification Option1Training/Education - Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
General Experience - Six months of full-time, paid experience performing EMT-Paramedic duties.
Supervisory Experience License/Certification - New York State Department of Health certification as an EMT - Paramedic; AND
- Possession of a valid New York State driver's license.

Supplemental Information- Appointee must possess a current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification at appointment.
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
- Must be able to safely climb stairs.
- Appropriate professional licensure must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
- An appropriate driver's license must be maintained throughout employment.
- A driving record evidencing safe and responsible vehicle operation is required.
- Must authorize and execute any necessary releases to enable the appointing authority to verify licensure and driving history involving violations and/or crimes.
- Meet the Qualifications and Competencies set forth in the EMT-B/AEMT Functional Position Description by the NYS Department of Health.
PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE: An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis.
