GENERAL OVERVIEW:
As an Outpatient Medical Coder, you will engage in comprehensive reviews of medical records to extract important medical and demographic data. You will apply your knowledge of ICD and CPT coding systems to accurately interpret diagnoses and procedures, positively impacting our accounts receivable efficiency.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Thoroughly review and interpret medical information, including physician treatment plans and outcomes, to determine the correct ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures. (65%)
Abstract and input data elements to fulfill statistical requests from hospitals, health systems, and medical staff. (15%)
Manage medical information and ensure effective cash flow concerning unbilled coding reports. (10%)
Stay updated on ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines through training, coding clinics, and other resources, and implement these updates in your daily work. (5%)
Perform other relevant duties as assigned. (5%)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
High School/GED
Successful completion of coding courses covering anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
1 year of experience in Hospital and/or Physician Coding
1 year of coding experience at mid-level facilities or clinics
1 year of coding experience for major surgeries, observations, and E/Ms
Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Strong data entry skills
Proficient understanding of computer applications
Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare team members
Certification options include:
Preferred
Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field

Pay Range Maximum:
$33.05
