Job Summary Summary Responsible for accurately assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to medical records, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements. Questions Does this position require Patient Care? No Responsibilities Review medical records and extract relevant clinical information to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes using coding systems such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS. Ensure accurate and detailed coding of medical data, adhering to established coding guidelines and industry standards. Follow coding and documentation guidelines set by regulatory bodies, including CMS, CPT, and other relevant coding authorities, to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Maintain the integrity and security of patient information and healthcare data throughout the coding process. Collaborate with clinical documentation specialists and healthcare providers to address documentation queries and obtain additional information for accurate coding. Qualifications Education Associate's Degree Health Information Management, CCS, or CCA coding credential required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Experience in medical coding within a healthcare facility, such as hospitals, or Post acute settings, 3 years of experience required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to accurately assign codes. Familiarity with coding systems, including ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS, and their application in healthcare settings. Understanding of regulatory guidelines and compliance requirements related to medical coding and documentation. Analytical and critical thinking skills to assess and validate coding accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate coding findings and recommendations. Proficiency in using coding software applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
