About the Job:

The Hospital Coding Educator is responsible for coding and abstracting support for hospital inpatient and outpatient accounts. This role is responsible for ensuring the appropriate diagnostic codes, CPT codes, and modifiers according to CMS coding guidelines, supporting coding accuracy, documentation integrity, and compliance across the Elliot Health System. The Hospital Coding Educator collaborates with coding staff, providers, and broader revenue cycle leadership to identify training needs, address coding discrepancies, and implement targeted educational initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensuring accurate, timely, and appropriate assignment of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for the purposes of billing, internal and external reporting, and compliance with regulatory and payer guidelines using current software and coding references

  • Contributing to a positive team culture by collaborating respectfully with peers, sharing knowledge, and supporting collective performance goals

  • Leading in process improvement efforts by identifying coding workflow inefficiencies and developing practical solutions to enhance accuracy and productivity

  • Utilizing and training peers on how to use coding software and electronic health record systems efficiently to ensure timely and accurate code assignment

Who You Are:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Five (5) + years of coding experience, preferably in a multi-specialty group practice, Required

  • Certified Professional Coder, Required

  • Experience/knowledge with healthcare coding and documentation audits and appeals

  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently and reliably
