Supervisor, Medical Technologist
The UHealth Laboratories Department at UHealth/University of Miami has several exciting opportunities for full-time Supervisor, Medical Technologists at the UTower Hospital.
The Supervisor, Medical Technologists provides leadership and supervision for clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance.
Core job functions include:
- Supervising, orienting, training, evaluating, and monitoring on-the-job performance of staff responsible for performing microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease.
- Verifying identification of specimen with physician's orders.
- Preparing specimen for testing and handling all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
- Supervising all research and preparing all pertinent patient data and referring to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
- Assisting in monitoring staff productivity and quality of work through proactive reviews of attendance and scheduling accuracy.
- Initiating performance management processes that address on-going performance issues.
- Recognizing test inconsistencies and taking appropriate corrective action and providing supervision to laboratory subordinates in resolution of similar problems.
- Running quality-control tests according to procedure and maintaining appropriate data recording.
- Seeking help from the section head and documenting actions taken.
- Performing and reviewing quality controls in testing and deciding whether results are within acceptable ranges.
- Advising technologists and other healthcare providers on proper methods of collection of specimens.
- Establishing and continuously assessing the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensuring employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
Core qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant field required. Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required. Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
