Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJefferson Community Health & Life is looking for a Certified Coder to work full-time.This is NOT a REMOTE position.Hours :M through Friday 8am - 4 :30pmNo weekends and no holidays.POSITION SUMMARY :The Clinic Coder is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and accurately coding patient medical records to support timely and compliant billing.This includes assigning appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services while ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and medical standards.The role supports revenue cycle accuracy, internal audits, and quality assurance initiatives within the clinic.QUALIFICATIONS :High school diploma or GEDCertified Professional Coder (CPC or CPC-A), preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.Knowledgeable of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology preferred.Experience with ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding preferred.Understanding of health insurance and billing practices preferredProficient in computer systems and electronic health recordsStrong organization and time management skillsEffective written and verbal communication skillsEssential Job Duties and Responsibilities :Medical Record Review and CodingReview electronic medical records for completeness and accuracyAssign diagnosis, evaluation and management., and procedure codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCSVerify supporting documentation aligns with assigned codesEnsure coding meets medical, legal, and regulatory standardsSubmit codes accurately and timely for billing and reimbursementPerform edit checks and correct data entry errors prior to transmittalReview all documents for authorized signatures and proper patient identificationQuality and Accuracy ReviewConduct coding audits to ensure accuracy and complianceIdentify discrepancies or documentation gaps and work with clinical staff to resolve themAppraise records for accurate and complete justification of diagnosis and treatmentResearch coding questions for other staff to assure quality and accuracyCompliance and Regulatory StandardsMaintain compliance with federal / state regulations and internal policies, including HIPAA, infection control, and safety standardsParticipate in internal and external audits as requiredEnsure alignment with JCH&L Compliance Program and Critical Access Hospital regulationsCommunication and Team CollaborationCommunicate with clinic staff to clarify documentation or coding issuesAssist in orientation and training of new team membersParticipate in department meetings and share expertise with peersPerformance Improvement and Professional DevelopmentIdentify and report process concerns, contributing to continuous improvement initiativesParticipate in departmental quality improvement projects and JCH&L committeesComplete required annual education and maintain coding knowledge through ongoing training and resourcesServe as a positive role model and contribute to a collaborative team environmentAttend department meetings, educational programs, and in-services to stay updated on coding regulations and best practicesAssist in training and orientation of new team membersSee attached for a full job description.
