Clinical Coder/Outreach Specialist
Position: Clinic Outreach Specialist
Reports to: Department Manager
Responsibilities:
As an outreach specialist, you will be responsible for actively engaging with appropriate populations and specifically with our Medicare and Medicare Advantage populations to promote awareness about AWVs (annual wellness visits), breast cancer screenings, colon screenings, and any other needed outreach related to programs, services, or quality initiatives.
The outreach specialist will be responsible for calling members and attempting to schedule these appointments for the healthcare system members.
As a Coder in population health, you will analyze patient records to help assign accurate ICD-10 codes.
As a Coder, you will review documentation for Population Health staff for completeness and accuracy to support code selection. You will help ensure correct codes are dropped to claims for billing and reimbursement.
As a coder, you will help work a list of patients in an Epic work-queue for all patients with upcoming appointments and needing HCCs assessed to make sure clinic providers address correctly at upcoming appointments.
As a Coder, you will communicate with our population health providers to clarify any documentation and to resolve any coding queries.
As a Coder, you will maintain adherence to coding standards, regulations, and ethical guidelines.
As a Coder, you will help extract relevant data for health records and quality reporting.
You will be trained in how to upload quality metrics to the different payer sites and will be responsible for assisting with quality uploads
Collaborate with the Director of Population Health, Assistant Manager, and other staff to help the healthcare system and providers achieve, master, and obtain excellent or above average quality scores.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School education/diploma that has completed coding education/training.
Has previously worked in a clinic setting so that familiar with anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, and coding systems.
Must exhibit excellent customer service with friendly phone skills/interpersonal relationship skills
Must have excellent time-management skills and organizational skills
Must work well with other staff and providers.
Must have excellent motivation with the ability and initiative to work independently and as a multidisciplinary team
Must be a quick learner with clinic or hospital experience and proficient at working with an EHR (electronic health record) and have basic computer skills
Minimum Requirements:
Must have an understanding of healthcare operations and systems
Preferred experience with Excel and Microsoft Word
Able to function/work effectively within an ever-changing environment
Able to meet deadlines and re-prioritize as necessary
Able to navigate pertinent software, systems, and databases utilized by the healthcare system
Able to assist with projects to meet deadlines and expectations
