Position Summary
The Inpatient Facility Medical Coder (IVR) is responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for inpatient interventional radiology encounters and related procedures. This role ensures all coding is performed in compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations while maintaining established productivity and accuracy standards. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of IVR coding, anatomy, and physiology, and can work independently in a remote environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for inpatient IVR cases and related procedures.
- Abstract and enter required data elements into the 3M encoder and/or Epic software.
- Complete UHDDS (Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set) data abstraction in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
- Review clinical documentation for completeness and clarity to support coding accuracy.
- Ensure coding compliance with official guidelines and facility policies.
- Maintain organized and accurate coding logs and records.
- Collaborate with clinical and coding teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate code assignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS certification required.
- Minimum of 3 years of inpatient coding experience, including IVR coding.
- Strong understanding of interventional radiology procedures, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Experience with 3M encoder and Epic preferred.
- Proficient with Windows applications, Outlook, and WebEx.
