Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as a Certified Outpatient Medical Coder. In this role, you will utilize documentation from healthcare professionals to accurately assign medical codes to patient records, ensuring compliance with ethical coding standards and official guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities
- Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, and modifier codes to reflect patient visit documentation precisely.
- Use coding software and resources to code inpatient and outpatient services, including diagnoses and procedures.
- Abstract required data elements such as discharge status as defined by management.
- Communicate coding issues effectively with providers and submit coding queries when necessary.
- Maintain cooperation and communication with physicians, staff, and clients to support accurate reimbursement.
- Serve as a resource for providers, coders, and billing offices regarding coding questions and billing edits.
- Manage coding workload independently while applying complex coding principles.
- Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher and meet productivity expectations.
- Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security regulations concerning Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Foster professional relationships with patients, team members, contractors, physicians, and external agencies.
Education and Experience - Required coding credential such as CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA.
- Associate's Degree preferred.
- At least 2 years of coding experience in a similar healthcare or professional fee coding environment.
- Experience in auditing and monitoring coding staff performance is a plus.
- Coding educator experience is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Strong knowledge of outpatient and professional ICD-10-CM and CPT coding standards.
- Proficient computer skills with familiarity in medical records systems.

Physical Requirements This position involves light work, occasionally exerting up to 25 pounds and frequently up to 10 pounds. Standing or walking may be required 11-25% of the workday.
