Work Location: Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, Temple, TX

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Central Time. Remote work

may be available with VPN access, following VHA security and privacy protocols. 6 months contract with possible extension.

Position Overview:

QPCS, in partnership with Titan AUXO, is looking for full-time Medical Records

Technicians (Coders – Outpatient) who are passionate about serving Veterans. In this

role, you will deliver accurate outpatient coding services for the VA’s Central Texas

Veterans Health Care System in Temple, TX, supporting ambulatory care, specialty

clinics, and telehealth operations. Your contributions will help maintain compliance,

support quality initiatives, and ensure precise billing and data collection for outpatient

services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign and abstract ICD-10 CM, CPT, HCPCS, and E/M codes for outpatient medical records in strict compliance with VA and federal guidelines.
  • Review outpatient documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Query providers for documentation clarification as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver coding reports and briefings to designated contacts.
  • Ensure timely coding to support billing, data collection, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and coding staff to resolve issues and maintain compliance.
  • Maintain proficiency in outpatient coding standards; participate in ongoing training.
  • Support the VA’s mission with accurate and compliant coding.
  • Work with claims staff and other personnel to facilitate correct coding and claims processing.
  • Comply with directives and regulations, including The Joint Commission, AMA, AHA, CMS, ICD-10 CM, CPT, E/M, HCPCS, Title 10 USC 1095, 32 CFR Part220, and HIPAA.

Qualifications:

Hold and maintain at least one of the following certifications:

o American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

o Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

o Certified Coding Specialist (CCS or CCS-P)

o Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

o American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)

o Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

  • U.S. citizenship and proficiency in spoken and written English required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of continuous outpatient coding experience serving a comparable patient population.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with ICD-10 CM, CPT, E/M, and HCPCS code sets.
  • Ability to navigate electronic health record systems and maintain compliance with privacy and coding regulations.
  • Contractor employees must be fully trained, competent, and able to fulfill all outpatient coding responsibilities and compliance requirements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a VA or similar federal healthcare environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Adhere to all relevant directives and standards, including The Joint Commission,AMA, AHA, CMS, ICD-10 CM, CPT, E/M, HCPCS, Title 10 USC 1095, 32 CFRPart 220, and HIPAA.
