Core Duties:

  • Lead a large team of medical coders and medical coding auditors to meet and exceed customer medical coding requirements (in-patient and out-patient).
  • Ensure team meets and exceeds productivity and quality standards within budget.
  • Maintain proper staffing and provide for continual professional training of team members.
  • Schedule and oversee medical coding team activities.
  • Validate work efforts are properly recorded and accurately reported.
  • Resolve personnel, system and customer related issues.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Skilled at tracking productivity, analyzing performance metrics, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Capacity to manage competing deadlines and coordinate deliverables across multiple contracts.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, demonstrating initiative in problem-solving and decision-making.

Education:

  • Associates degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a biological science

Certifications:

ONE of the following recognized professional coding certifications:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Certified Coding Specialist Physician (CCS-P)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

AND ONE of the following auditing certifications:

  • Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)
  • Certified Evaluation and Management Auditor (CEMA)

Experience

  • Five years medical coding experience (out-patient and inpatient)
  • MHS Genesis system medical coding experience
  • One year of medical coding auditor experience
  • Experience leading a large team or more medical coders to accomplish organization requirements on schedule, within budget and consistently meet quality and productivity standards.

Required Skills:

  • Advanced to Expert in Microsoft Suite (word, excel, powerpoint, OneDrive and SharePoint)
  • Excel Skills needed to be successful:
    • Pivot Tables and charts
    • Power Query
    • Advanced Formulas
    • Data Validation and protection
    • Building executive level reports
    • Optimization of large workbooks
