We are looking for a passionate, driven, and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our well-established practices in the Greater Miami area. SWH provides the following services to our community evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders. Our behavioral programs are nationally accredited by the Joint Commission and listed with the Agency of Health Care Administration and the Florida Department of Children and Families. A Billing Specialist oversees the billing process for customers or patients. Their duties include processing payments on behalf of a customer or patient, maintaining organized financial records to aid reporting, and calculating bill totals by looking through previous financial statements. Billing Specialist duties and responsibilities Billing Specialists perform many accounting, customer service, and organizational tasks to promote the financial health of their organization. · Searching each financial statement for any payment inconsistencies or errors · Collaborating with patients or customers, third-party institutions, and other team members to resolve billing inconsistencies and errors · Creating invoices and billing materials to be sent directly to a customer or patient · Inputting payment history, upcoming payment information, or other financial data into an individual account · Finding financial solutions for patients or customers who may need payment assistance · Informing patients or customers of any missed or upcoming payment deadlines · Calculating and tracking various company financial statements · Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing. · Following up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle timeframe. · Researching and appealing denied claims. · Answering patient or insurance telephone inquiries about assigned accounts. · Setting up patient payment plans and work collection accounts. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems. · Competent use of computer systems, software, and ten essential calculators. · Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 Coding. · Effective communication abilities for phone contacts with insurance payers to resolve issues. · Customer service skills for interacting with patients regarding medical claims and payments, including communicating with patients and family members of diverse ages and backgrounds. · Ability to work well in a team environment. Being able to triage priorities and handle conflict reasonably. · Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, and collections. · A calm manner and patience working with either patients or insurers during this process. · Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures. · Knowledge of medical terminology likely to be encountered in medical claims. · Maintaining patient confidentiality per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). · Ability to multitask. · Ability to work under minimal supervision. . Bilingual English/Spanish Education and Experience Required · Minimum two years of Revenue Cycle experience in a healthcare setting required · Must have excellent computer knowledge of Patient Accounting systems · Working knowledge of DDE · Associates degree or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in a related field desired Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Additional Compensation/Benefits: Besides a base salary, this position is eligible for bonuses based on Company performance.
