Description
Barrington Orthopedic Specialists is looking for a full-time Certified Coder. Applicant must have worked according to payer-specific guidelines, validate documentation, and work with the physicians to assure proper coding. A disciplined individual with the ability to prioritize and multi-task with attention to detail, and the ability to maintain productivity at a consistent pace will be most successful.
Responsible for coding Orthopedic, Podiatric, Spine and Hand services (specifically surgeries).
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), based out of our Schaumburg location.
Barrington Orthopedic Specialists was established in 1980 with a philosophy of treating patients as you would want to be treated. The practice has remained as the premier orthopedic provider of the northwest Chicago suburbs, providing compassionate, individualized care for patients' bones, joints, and muscle injuries and conditions.
Essential Function(s) of the Position:
- Ensure clean and timely data entry, charge posting and billing of claims
- Verify accuracy of medical record documentation and assign appropriate CPT codes
- Review ICD10 codes for accuracy, sequencing and specificity
- Add modifiers as appropriate
- Educate the medical staff regarding coding issues
- Stay current with relevant coding and insurance guidelines and policies
- Demonstrate willingness to work in a team environment
- Conducts self in accordance with the employee manual and maintain strict confidentiality policies
- Meet with doctors as needed in practice setting to provide current, accurate data
- Review and appeal denials
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Job Requirements:Education/Experience : •High School Diploma or equivalent
•Certified Professional Coder with minimum of 2 years of experience in Orthopedic/Spine Surgery coding
Licensing/Certifications : •CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or Equivalent REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : •Complete knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding and documentation requirements REQUIRED
•Medical Terminology REQUIRED
•Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software experience for Athena PREFERRED
•Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as Word, Excel and Outlook REQUIRED
