We are seeking an experienced and versatile Medical Billing & Coding Specialist to join our in-house billing division and support our growing team of multi-specialty providers. ERHC personnel must be able to learn quickly, adapt to change, and maintain flexibility while ensuring a quality healthcare experience. The ideal candidate will be able to excel in a dynamic, highly patient-centered environment.
Essential Job Duties
- Support billing to a variety of third-party payers, to include to commercial insurance, Workers’ Compensation agencies, and public emergency agency departments
- Work directly with ERHC clinical providers to assist with chart review and coding optimization; provide timely and accurate review of E&M and CPT billing codes to ensure accuracy; and consult with clinical providers to clarify missing or inadequate claim information
- Assign appropriate codes (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) into the practice EMR for diagnoses, treatments, and services rendered
- Send claims, perform follow-up, troubleshoot errors, and appeal/resolve third-party insurance company denials in a timely manner
- Assist in resolving patient billing discrepancies and collections; manage outstanding AR accounts to ensure timely reimbursement collections; send patient statements and collect past-due payments
- Maintain current knowledge of major insurance carrier regulations, procedures, and benefit plans
- Act as a knowledge resource for in-house clinical and administrative staff for billing and coding concerns
- Assist with updating the charge master fee schedule and researching insurance allowables for various E&M and CPT codes (for insurance companies and the Idaho Industrial Commission)
- Provide VIP customer service to ERHC patients with regard to billing concerns
Schedule
- Full-Time, weekdays (5 days/week), in-person
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- Expert knowledge of Medical Billing & Coding profession and standards
- Certified Professional Coder (preferred) -and-
- Certified Professional Biller (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years’ medical office experience in a Medical Billing & Coding role, ideally in an outpatient clinic setting; 3 - 5 years preferred
- Strong understanding of diagnosis (ICD) and procedure (CPT) coding systems
- Ability to communicate effectively and resolve concerns with patients, providers, and insurance carriers
- Understanding of revenue cycle receivables from both patients and insurance carriers
- Understanding of insurance claim adjustments
- Strong attention to detail; strong written and oral communication skills; superior customer service skills
- Ability to focus and multi-task in a busy practice environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and efficiency
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality with strong adherence to standard privacy practices for Protected Health Information
- Demonstrated proficiency in clinic-based EMR applications; knowledge of eClinicalWorks a plus
