Must have trauma coding experience

The practice offers physician services in trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. The Certified Coder is responsible for accurately interpreting and billing trauma and general surgery physician charges. This role involves conducting research to ensure compliance with regulatory coding requirements, as well as analyzing and recommending solutions to prevent future coding errors. A strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy is essential. The ideal candidate should also have a solid grasp of accounts receivable and familiarity with various payers, including CA Medi-Cal and Medicare. 

·         Conduct initial charge reviews to identify the appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes for accurately reporting physician services to third-party payers.

·         Analyze progress notes, operative reports, discharge summaries, and charge documents to determine the services provided, ensuring accurate assignment of CPT and ICD-10 codes.

·         Exhibit meticulous attention to detail by identifying all billable procedures and services, capturing the relevant ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes along with their quantities.

·         Recognize and escalate issues to leadership that may impact timely coding and charge capture, as well as billing and reimbursement delays.

·         Engage with physicians in accordance with established policies when documentation is unclear or conflicting.

·         Stay updated on coding guidelines through self-study, designated training, attendance at coding meetings, and participation in relevant in-services. Actively engage in internal and external quality review meetings and audits.

·         Achieve or exceed the established quality standard of 97% accuracy while meeting or surpassing production targets.

·         Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other relevant seminars and meetings.

·         Uphold corporate and departmental quality standards in coding and meet documented productivity benchmarks.

·         Manage time efficiently to thrive in a high-volume, high-accuracy work environment while adhering to deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
