The Surgical Abstraction & Coding Lead is the first point of contact for daily operations, oversight and coding assistance. The lead will coordinate with the supervisor and/or manager for leadership guidance/direction of the surgical abstractors and medical coders workflow/processes. This role requires strong knowledge of medical coding guidelines, regulations, and best practices. The lead is responsible for assigning appropriate codes to medical procedures, surgeries, diagnoses, and treatments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with coding standards. The Lead also provides guidance and training to other coders to ensure coding and workflow accuracy.
Highschool Diploma or GED
AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
• 4+ years of experience in surgical coding, preferably in a multi-specialty practice
• Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and medical terminology
• Previous supervisory or lead experience preferred
• Previous experience in a billing, accounts receivable or claims department are preferred
• Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and work independently
