Emergency Medicine & Trauma Coder
LaSalle Network is partnering with our client to hire an Emergency Medicine & Trauma Coder for a fully remote, contract-to-hire opportunity. This role is ideal for a specialized professional fee (pro-fee) coder who can translate complex clinical documentation from trauma surgeries, emergency procedures, and critical care visits into accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for physician billing. You will support clean claims, compliant reimbursement, and accurate code assignment in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Review operative reports, physician notes, trauma admissions, and emergency room documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures for coding.
- Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes in accordance with national coding guidelines, including evaluation and management (E&M) services and critical care time when applicable.
- Code physician and surgeon services for professional fee billing, focusing on provider services rather than facility-based coding.
- Apply specialty-specific surgical and trauma coding guidelines to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Identify documentation gaps and escalate coding questions when clarification is needed.
Qualifications
- Active coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA, such as CPC, CCS, or CCS-P.
- 1–3+ years of medical coding experience, specifically in trauma, emergency medicine, general surgery, or acute care.
- Experience coding both procedures and E&M services.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and specialty-specific coding guidelines.
- Experience working in an academic or teaching facility environment is required.
