Medical Biller/Coder

Carley Family Care is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Biller/Coder to join our healthcare team. This individual will be responsible for accurate medical coding, charge entry, claims submission, payment posting, and accounts receivable follow-up. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and insurance billing processes to help ensure timely reimbursement and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review and accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for patient encounters and services.
- Enter charges and submit claims to insurance carriers in a timely manner.
- Verify coding accuracy and ensure compliance with payer and regulatory guidelines.
- Review and resolve claim denials, rejections, and payment discrepancies.
- Post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and write-offs as appropriate.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding claims.
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status, coding questions, and reimbursement issues.
- Maintain accurate patient demographic, insurance, and billing information.
- Assist with insurance verification and authorization processes when needed.
- Conduct billing and coding audits to identify errors and improve reimbursement processes.
- Stay current on coding updates, payer requirements, and healthcare billing regulations.
- Collaborate with providers and office staff to ensure proper documentation supports coding and billing activities.
- Respond professionally to patient billing inquiries and provide assistance with account questions.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of medical billing and coding experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) and medical billing software.
- Strong understanding of insurance claims processing, reimbursement methodologies, and accounts receivable management.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- CPC, CCS, or other coding certification preferred but not required.
