We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Professional Surgical Coder to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately translating complex surgical procedures into standardized medical codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. The Surgical Coder plays a crucial role in ensuring that our surgical documentation is precise and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of medical terminology, and the ability to maintain patient confidentiality and data integrity. The Professional Surgical Coder will work closely with surgeons, medical staff, and billing departments to streamline coding processes and optimize reimbursement procedures.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU II), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
