Role Overview

As an Outpatient Professional Coder, you will play a vital role in reviewing, analyzing, and coding diagnostic and procedural information from patient medical records. Your work ensures accurate billing, supports medical research, and aids in administrative decision-making. By maintaining compliance with coding guidelines and reimbursement policies, you will directly contribute to the quality of patient care and the efficiency of our healthcare system.

What You Will Do

• Review and analyze patient medical records to accurately code diagnostic and procedural information.
• Abstract relevant data from medical records to support research, patient care evaluation, and administrative decisions.
• Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, and accreditation standards.
• Optimize reimbursement by applying established coding principles and procedures.
• Promote provider/patient continuity through precise and timely coding practices.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), RHIT Certification eligibility, or CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCP, or CCA certification.
• Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Some college or additional coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration, or Medical Record Sciences.
• Six (6) months of prior coding experience.
