Crouse Health is hiring an Outpatient HIM Coder. Schedule: Full Time, Day Shift, 7:30am-4:00pm

Pay Range: $26.52 - $42.17 / hour

Outpatient HIM Coder Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes approved outpatient coding guidelines, appropriate computer software, department policies and procedures, and other pertinent resource materials to assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes which accurately reflect documented diagnoses and procedures.

  • Accurately assigns diagnoses, charges (designated service lines only), and CPT in accordance to documentation and coding guidelines to all OP records.

  • Monitors and accurately works medical necessity and CCI edits accordingly on all OP encounters.

  • Accurately abstracts record data into a computerized system as required for coding and billing compliance, SPARCS data collection and needs of internal customers.

  • Learns and utilizes appropriate computer software associated with the coding function.

  • Works to achieve coding quality and productivity standards.

  • Maintains appropriate credentials and CE credits. Including self-study/education as needed.

  • Maintains confidentiality when dealing with patient medical information.

  • Identifies the needs of cultural differences when dealing with the medical staff, outside public and customers.

  • Required to report on site as requested.

  • Assumes other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Outpatient HIM Coder Position Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must possess any one of the following accredited health information management program credentials: RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC/CCA or have eligibility for credentialing in-process.

  • RHIT/RHIA eligible employees must become certified within 1 year of graduating from their respective program.

  • All candidates must take and pass a coding test at the time of interview. Test administered by Human Resources.

  • Must be able to read electronic records and be computer savvy.

  • Must be a team player, multi-tasker and strong organization skills.

  • Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills.
