Sr. Specialty Physician Coder - Interventional Radiology PositionRemote Opportunity for CA Residents OnlyPosition Type: TemporarySchedule: M-F, 20 - 30 hours/wk (Remote; Must reside in California)Assignment Length: Approximately 3-Months, possibly LongerDescription: Under the direction of the Coding Compliance Manager, the Senior Specialty Physician Coder is responsible for reviewing and accurately coding physician services to ensure compliant reimbursement and complete charge capture.This role is highly specialized in Interventional Radiology (IR) and requires a coder who can independently perform complex IR coding from day one. The coder will also support coding operations, identify trends and irregularities, and collaborate with leadership on compliance and process improvement initiatives.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform independent, high-level Interventional Radiology (IR) coding for outpatient (Profee) servicesReview and abstract medical records to ensure accurate and complete charge captureAssign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for procedures and servicesPerform charge entry and submission in Epic with a high degree of accuracyEnsure compliance with coding guidelines, payer requirements, and organizational policiesIdentify and communicate coding trends, discrepancies, and compliance risksServe as a resource and point of contact for contract coders, ensuring continuity of coding operationsCollaborate with the Coding Compliance Manager on coding issues, trends, and corrective actionsCommunicate effectively with providers and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding and billing issuesProvide guidance, support, and mentoring to coding staff as neededRequirementsMinimum 5 years of medical coding experience in a hospital or physician practice settingAt least 2+ years of recent, hands-on Interventional Radiology (IR) coding experienceDemonstrated ability to perform IR coding independently (no training provided)Strong Profee (professional fee) coding experience – outpatient onlyTechnical KnowledgeExpert knowledge of: ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCSStrong understanding of: medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology; healthcare revenue cycleProven ability to analyze complex documentation and resolve coding issuesSystemsEpic experience required, including charge entry and submissionProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteCertification & EducationCPC, CCS, or CIRCC equivalent coding certification requiredHigh School Diploma or GED required
