Essential Functions
- Assign codes using ICD‑10‑CM and maintain a 95% coding accuracy threshold.
- Review patient charts and documents for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and follow up with providers.
- Query physicians for clarification to ensure coding accuracy and specificity.
- Stay current on coding, diagnostic procedures, and federal legislative changes.
- Comply with HIPAA to protect patient confidentiality.
- Complete required trainings as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
- 3 years medical coding experience or a coding certification (AHIMA or AAPC) required.
- Rehabilitation coding experience preferred.
- Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
- Current knowledge of CPT and ICD‑10 coding principles, government regulations, protocols, and third‑party payer requirements.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulatory guidelines for reimbursement and prospective payment systems.
Physical Requirements
During a shift: significant sitting and reaching; lifting or exerting up to 10 lbs.; sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard; good near vision and ability to focus; ability to hear overhead pages.
