Job Description: Medical Billing Specialist (Certified Billing and Coding) Overview Charlotte Community Health Clinic offers high-quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services for children and adults. The Medical Billing Specialist will collect payments, manage accounts, provide solutions for billing issues, and ensure accurate insurance claims. Key Responsibilities Arranges payments, manages accounts, and monitors/tracks delinquent accounts. Creates and establishes payment methods with patients for delinquent accounts, tracks payments, and follows up when gaps occur. Collects outstanding balances from patients and sends monthly statements. Maintains confidentiality and follows clinic policies and procedures. Reports compliance issues to supervisor. Participates in job‐enhancing opportunities such as training and seminars. Serves clinical population by adhering to all local, state, and federal laws. Contributes to the team with creative input and challenging ideas. Files insurance claims to clearinghouse or individual insurers electronically or via paper. Reviews and corrects claim edits within 24 hours of receipt. Verifies information necessary for insurance claims (patient, insurance ID, diagnosis and treatment codes, modifiers, provider information) to ensure clean submission. Regularly meets with supervisor to report issues or obstacles with clean claim billing and trends in insurance reimbursement. Understands CO‑B, resubmissions, secondary billing, corrected claims, void and replacement claims, and refiling to insurance. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Must be a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS). At least 1 year of billing experience in a medical setting. Prior experience with Epic. Strong understanding of billing systems. FQHC CBCS certification is highly preferred. Prior FQHC experience. Physical Requirements Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Lifting greater than 50 pounds. Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting and/or standing.
