Assistant Billing Manager

Job Description

A specialty physician practice in Central Florida is hiring an Assistant Billing Manager to support the daily operation of our billing department across multiple locations.

You'll work alongside the Billing Manager, sharing responsibility for the team's day-to-day work — running queues, working the hardest denials yourself, covering when the Manager is pulled into other projects, and helping newer billers get up to speed. This is a hands-on role. You'll still be working claims, not just overseeing people who work claims.

It's a strong fit for a senior biller or billing lead ready to step into management, or an assistant manager looking for a larger and more complex operation.

What You'll Own

  • Daily work queue assignment and monitoring across the billing team
  • Denial triage — prioritizing by filing deadline, recoverability, and dollar value
  • Working complex denials and appeals directly, especially high-dollar and aged claims
  • A/R follow-up on assigned payers and aging buckets
  • Payment posting oversight, reconciliation, and credit balance resolution
  • Patient balance follow-up and payment plan administration
  • Training new billers and serving as the first stop for day-to-day questions
  • Running the department in the Billing Manager's absence
  • Pulling weekly reporting on aging, denials, and productivity

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 3+ years in medical billing with demonstrated depth in denials and appeals
  • Experience as a lead, senior biller, or assistant manager
  • Strong practice management / EHR system skills (any major platform)
  • Ability to read a fee schedule and an EOB and explain a variance
  • Comfort answering questions from other billers and correcting work when it's wrong
  • Willingness to stay hands-on in the queues

Strongly preferred

  • Dermatology, plastic surgery, or other procedural specialty experience
  • Multi-location experience
  • CPB, CPC, or comparable credential preferred

Compensation & Benefits

  • $75,000 base
  • Healthcare coverage
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Continuing education and certification support
