Job Description

Certified Medical Coder - HIM We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Medical Coder to join our healthcare team. This position supports coding operations for both hospital and clinic services and offers a hybrid work schedule, combining remote work from home and on-site responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare documentation, regulatory requirements, and coding guidelines to ensure accurate and timely coding of patient records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, payer, and organizational coding regulations.

  • Abstract relevant clinical information from patient records.

  • Work collaboratively with physicians, providers, nursing staff, and other departments to clarify documentation and resolve coding questions.

  • Maintain coding quality and productivity standards.

  • Support billing, reimbursement, and denial management processes through accurate coding.

  • Participate in coding audits and educational opportunities to maintain professional competency.

  • Stay current on coding updates, payer requirements, and healthcare regulations.

  • Assist with compliance initiatives and revenue cycle management activities as assigned.

Qualifications (required):

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 1 year of healthcare coding experience in a hospital, clinic, physician practice, or healthcare system.

  • Current coding certification from an accredited organization.

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.

  • Working knowledge of electronic health records (EHRs) and healthcare billing processes.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications (preferred):

  • Experience coding both hospital and professional/clinic services.

  • Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field.

  • Experience with coding audits, compliance programs, and payer guidelines.

Work Environment:

This position follows a hybrid schedule, with responsibilities divided between remote work from home and on-site work at hospital and clinic locations. Candidates must have reliable internet service and a dedicated home workspace that meets HIPAA confidentiality requirements.
