Responsibilities Code inpatient, outpatient, ED, Home Health & Hospice records, and professional fee services for PMG specialty providers using ICD-9/10 CM and CPT-4.
Ensure adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
Demonstrate knowledge of multiple coding areas and specialties or have extensive experience in a critical specialty.
Review full medical records, assign CPT, ICD and MS-DRG codes per UHDDS and CMS guidelines.
Access multiple systems to research records as needed for timely coding.
Manage accounts receivable by locating missing documents, generating queries, and ensuring all encounters are coded.
Maintain updated knowledge of legal and regulatory changes: ICD-9/10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, DRG, APC, HHRG.
Resolve pre-bill edits, denials, and other billing issues for assigned accounts.
Participate in departmental in-services and updates to stay current with coding guidelines.
Communicate issues to the EW Clinical Coding Manager as appropriate.
Maintain at least 95% accuracy rate.
Maintain productivity meeting PHS Productivity Standards.
Maintain Continuing Education (CE) requirements per PHS policy.
Perform any other functions as required.
Qualifications High school diploma or GED required.
One of the following certification levels at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, or RHIT/RHIA, and obtain the credential within one year of hire.
Three to five years of coding experience required; inpatient coding experience preferred.
