Experience / Qualifications
State of Florida Supervisor License. Licensure preferred in all 6 areas or at least Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunohematology or eligible, must obtain within 6 months of employment.
5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
Knowledge of Joint Commission, College of American Pathology and AABB accreditation standards.
Knowledge of both Federal and State Regulations on Clinical Laboratories.
Position Summary
Supervises technical and non‑technical laboratory personnel as well as daily operations in assigned areas/shifts to achieve organization and regulatory requirements.
Functional areas of responsibility may include but are limited to technical discipline areas in which the department is licensed, specimen collection, specimen processing and specimen referral testing. Performs technical and non‑technical duties in assigned areas of responsibility as required.
Responsibilities
Responsible for scheduling, productivity, and inventory for assigned shift(s).
Assumes responsibility for adequate staffing and adjusts schedules and workstations assignments as needed.
Orients new employees, conducts in‑services, ensures competency testing and annual safety training, and ensures that team members adhere to established policies and procedures.
Ensures maintenance of accreditation and licensing requirements for laboratory and assists Manager/Director with compliance to accreditation standards.
Implements the laboratory safety program and ensures that the laboratory follows all hospital safety goals.
Performs and interprets diagnostic laboratory procedures.
Reviews quality control programs, preventative maintenance and patient records.
Interacts with other departments, physicians, and team members to produce quality laboratory results for quality patient care.
Remains current in technical skills and knowledge.
Monitors and evaluates the activities and attendance of team members; provides management, coaching, guidance, delegation opportunities, and on‑the‑job training as needed to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to policies and procedures; fosters open communication by offering, encouraging and accepting suggestions from team members regarding department operations.
Provides technical supervisory coverage of the laboratory for equipment or reagent problems and establishes and maintains all required records.
Advises the manager/director of issues affecting the laboratory.
Demonstrates proper decision making, effectively establishes priorities for ongoing lab functions.
Compiles statistics for the laboratory performance improvement program and meets deadlines.
Ensures that critical functions of the department are performed and documented, including corrective action as needed.
Oversees the quality control of the laboratory; ensures that records are reviewed and corrective action documented.
Investigates unacceptable results and documents corrective action.
Documents education, drills, and safety rounds.
Ensures that team members are trained in computer downtime procedure, disaster preparedness and safe work practices and works with management to improve processes that are found to be inadequate.
Willing to perform bench work when the need arises to improve workflow and efficiency of the department.

Monitors resource utilization, including payroll, supplies, expenses, client volume and revenue variation reports, outpatient volume reports, mileage and expense logs; participates in MOR and takes immediate action as needed.
Completes and conducts performance evaluations for all team members under direct supervision after three months and annually in a timely manner.
May be required to perform phlebotomy and cross‑train to other job duties and orient new team members.

Physical Requirements
Standing on feet 20% of shift while receiving specimens; sits up to 7 hours per day on a chair while doing paperwork; walking up to 50 yards per day.
Lifting: 1–10 lbs from floor to counter level, PRN to replace supplies; carrying 1–10 lbs, distance Pushing: 1–5 lbs, Squatting: twisting several times a day to reach cabinets and equipment (upper body 45°; frequency 10 times/day).
Rotating: upper body 45°; frequency 10 times/day.
Reaching: arms distance 1–3 feet several times a day.
OSHA exposure level is Category I – exposure to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids; use of appropriate protective equipment is required.
Threshold Requirements
These threshold requirements are required and completed on a yearly basis.
Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in‑service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation.
TB/PPD surveillance program.
Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
