A day in the life... Wondering what a day in the life of Biller/Coder III at The Iowa Clinic might look like?
Reviews complex patient encounters, procedures, specialty services, and high-risk documentation to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant coding
Validates that documentation supports assigned codes and identifies inconsistencies, trends, and opportunities for improvement
Serves as a subject-matter expert on CPT, ICD, HCPCS, modifiers, NCCI edits, payer guidelines, and regulatory requirements
Provides real-time feedback and consultation to physicians and APPs on coding, documentation, and payer requirements
Participates in specialty meetings, education sessions, and provider onboarding to improve documentation accuracy and reduce denials
Responds to clinician inquiries related to coding, documentation, and direct-to-bill workflows with timely, accurate guidance
Monitors CMS updates, coding changes, and payer policies, and communicates relevant information to clinicians, team members, and leadership
Collaborates with revenue cycle, operations, and analytics teams to support coding initiatives, workflow improvements, and process redesign
Acts as a mentor and resource to team members, assisting with complex cases and supporting skill development
Participates in coding audits, documentation improvement initiatives, and cross-functional projects
Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and a positive organizational presence internally and externally
Supports overall team workload and contributes to a collaborative work environment
This job might be for you if... Education High school diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications Previous experience working in a medical office and a working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding required.
Exposure to different types of insurance programs preferred.
Required Licenses Certified Professional Coding Certificate is required.
