Job Description

Position Summary Reviews medical record documentation to determine appropriate billing codes and necessary documentation. Working Conditions Job Location/Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Key Responsibilities Review the documentation in the record to identify all pertinent facts necessary to select the comprehensive diagnoses and procedures that fully describe the patient’s conditions and treatment. Code evaluation and management to appropriate CPT code and code diagnoses to appropriate ICD-10 codes. Meet with physicians to review documentation, resolve coding, and secure signatures for all unsigned dates of service; tag files for follow up. Act as lead person and assist coders with medical terminology and policy interpretation as required. Assist with efforts to increase physician awareness of documentation requirements. Prepare case reports and initiate follow-up for billing process. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Certifications Education : A diploma, certification or degree is not required. Certifications / Professional Licenses : The following certifications may be required or preferred: CCA, CCS, CCS-P (AHIMA); CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A or related AAPC credentials; RHIA or RHIT (AHIMA). Credentials listed may vary by department. Work Experience No specific work experience is required for this position. Skills Computer systems, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Terminology. Required Qualifications Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials. The specialty credential is only valid for that employee’s department. Preferred Qualifications Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding. Education – Preferred Associate degree in Medical Coding & Billing. Salary and Benefits Grade : C10-H Salary Range : $26.25 - $39.36 per hour The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
