The ideal candidate will possess an expertise in hospital-based or surgical coding (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS) and have demonstrated proficiency using EMR/epic. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing medical records to assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and managing coding work queues directly within EPIC to facilitate timely billing and reimbursement. Education & Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree in Health Information Management preferred or.....
- Certification: CCS or CPC preferred
- MUST HAVE a minimum of 2 years experience with Hospital/Surgical Coding
- ENT Coding perferred

Responsibilities
Coding & Documentation Review: - Analyze medical records for [Inpatient / Outpatient / Emergency Department] encounters to determine the principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, and significant procedures.
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, [ICD-10-PCS for Inpatient], CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes in accordance with official coding guidelines.
- Verify and validate DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) assignment for inpatient records or APC (Ambulatory Payment Classification) for outpatient records.
- Abstract required clinical data elements for discharge reporting and quality initiatives.
Epic Workflow Management: - Manage Epic Work queues (WQs): Daily monitoring and clearing of coding edits, claim edits, and denials within the Epic Resolute or HIM modules.
- Utilize Epic's "NoteReader" or CAC (Computer Assisted Coding) tools to validate auto-suggested codes against clinical documentation.
- Navigate Epic Hyperspace efficiently to review progress notes, operative reports, lab results, and imaging to support code assignment.
Compliance & Collaboration: - Identify documentation deficiencies and initiate physician queries within Epic to clarify diagnoses or procedures for accurate coding (CDI collaboration).
- Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher.
Skills ICD-10 (2 years of experience is required) EHR/Epic (2 years of experience is required) ENT Coding (1 year of experience is preferred) Hospital or Surgical Coding (1 year of experience is required) Medical Records (2 years of experience is preferred)
