Location: Avera Downtown Building - Sioux Falls Worker Type: Regular Work Shift: Day Shift (United States) Pay Range: $24.00 - $35.00 (actual pay rate dependent upon experience) Position Highlights You Belong at Avera. Overview Responsible for the timely and accurate assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes for a variety of outpatient charts across Avera Health facilities. Accurate abstracting, along with other reporting and editing functions, is also a major responsibility. The Coder II works independently to meet quality and production goals with occasional guidance from other professional staff. Responsibilities Review all aspects of a patient’s clinical documentation to identify appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes for assigned charts. Understand ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPC codes in depth, and update knowledge through research or other educational opportunities. Determine appropriate APC/EAPC and/or medical coding for a variety of outpatient patient types (ER, ancillaries, imaging, lab, PT, OT, SP and/or dialysis). Serve as a subject matter expert on coding topics for other health professionals within Avera. Query physicians and clinical documentation staff to ensure full capture of the clinical record. Assist with or lead communication between health information management, billing, and providers as needed. Maintain personal quality and production statistics in accordance with service line standards. Qualifications Essential: Ability to work the specified hours. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience (within 180 days): Certified Coding Associate (CCA) – AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P) – AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) – AHIMA Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) – AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – AAPC Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) – AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) – AHIMA Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience: Associate’s degree in Health Information Administration or Health Information Technology 1-3 years coding experience Expectations and Standards Commit to the daily application of Avera’s mission, vision, core values, and social principles to serve patients, their families, and the community.
