Capital Health is a regional leader in progressive, quality patient care, providing services through two hospitals, an outpatient center, satellite ED, and an extensive primary and specialty care network. The Medical Group employs over 600 physicians and other providers who deliver primary, specialty, and hospital‑based care to patients throughout the region.
Pay Range: $25.49 - $33.16 per hour (full‑time equivalent 1.0 FTE).
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours.
Position Overview
This is a full‑time, remote physician coding position open to candidates residing in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Alabama. The role requires accurate assignment of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD‑10‑CM codes for professional claims from Capital Health Medical Group for both hospital and outpatient procedures.
Essential Functions
Review procedure documentation to assign accurate CPT‑4 procedure codes and appropriate modifiers for OR and procedure room cases.
Validate provider‑selected ICD‑10‑CM diagnosis codes.
Analyze documentation to ensure correct E&M codes for procedural cases.
Meet or exceed departmental accuracy and productivity standards.
Ensure compliance with national coding guidelines and Capital Health policies for consistent, accurate coding that supports reimbursement and data integrity.
Apply official coding conventions per AMA and CMS, including procedural and diagnostic codes.
Foster teamwork and collaboration across teams.
Review CCI, MUE edits, LCD/NCD coverage before chart finalization.
Identify documentation gaps, escalating when clarification is needed.
Collaborate with billing, charge review, and revenue integrity teams to prevent recurring issues.
Address professional coding pre‑bill edits promptly to minimize days in denied‑not‑filed‑back (DNFB).
Serve as subject‑matter expert for professional coding.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Professional Coder‑Apprentice (CPC‑A), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist‑Physician (CCS‑P) certification required.
Associate’s degree in health information management preferred.
Preferred: Two years of physician coding experience; ICD‑10‑CM, CPT‑4, and HCPCS coding experience; one year of surgical coding experience.
Other Credentials
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of surgical coding guidelines and pathophysiology/disease processes.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology also preferred.
Special Training
Professional coding and training certification required.
Maintain CPC‑A, CPC, or CCS‑P certifications.
Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities
Capable of working in environments using multiple EMR systems.
Ability to work collaboratively with others and independently.

8 hours.
