Job Summary
Location: Methodist Corporate Office, 825 S 169th St., Omaha, NE
Work Schedule: Flexible 8.5 hour shifts, Mon – Fri between 6:00am and 6:00pm
Review Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and charge codes to ensure all accounts reflect appropriate charges. Maintain accounts receivable within 3–5 days of discharge and meet minimum productivity standards.
Responsibilities
Code professional charges and hospital services accurately by reviewing doctor dictation and assigning CPT and ICD‑10‑CM codes.
Maintain timely submission of claims to insurance companies and keep accounts receivable within 3–5 days of discharge.
Meet productivity standards:
30 radiology/OP diagnostic services encounters per hour
25 non‑patient pathology encounters per hour
15 recurring encounters per hour
15 emergency department encounters per hour
12 professional services encounters per hour
10 GI lab and pain management encounters per hour
Assign appropriate evaluation and management (E/M) and CPT codes according to CPT coding and 1995/1997 E/M guidelines for clinic encounters, professional inpatient visits, and ED encounters.
Review hospital billing charges with physicians to ensure accuracy and advise on billing updates.
Investigate claim denials from third‑party payers and perform necessary coding or charging corrections.
Review Medicare and commercial correspondence for updates, check for billing and coding changes, and update the coding manual when necessary.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. College level completion of courses in anatomy, physiology, biology, disease process, and medical terminology required. Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred.
Experience: Prior healthcare registration, customer service, insurance, or billing experience preferred.
License/Certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist‑Physician‑Based (CCS‑P), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required.
