Certified Coder/Data Entry
Responsible for providing all procedure codes and diagnosis codes ensuring all proper documentation is obtained and sent to insurance copies for billing purposes.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for obtaining authorization for hospital procedures.
- Responsible for providing all procedure codes and diagnosis codes for billing procedures.
- Creating patient accounts on EKG's echocardiograms, and vascular interpretations.
- Responsible for verifying all demographic information is correct.
- Entering charges for all hospital procedures, daily rounds, and studies done at the hospital.
- Responsible for printing and attaching all necessary documentation to the charges for proper billing and verifying the procedures that are being billed were performed.
- Assisting with the preparation of the daily hospital list for physicians as needed.
- Responsible for taking information down from the hospital calling in for cardiology consults.
- Faxing records to the doctor on call for hospital consults if needed.
- Assisting different in obtaining the proper authorization for the procedures that are scheduled for appropriate billing purposes.
- Assisting different department that may need my assistance in billing, collections, data entry.
- Responsible for faxing the on call calendar every month and when updated to the hospitals and doctors offices as indicated.
- Speaking to patients when they are calling regarding their procedure and assuring them that the authorization was obtained.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Insures procedure codes and diagnosis codes are up to date.
- Communicates codes changes to staff and providers.
- Performs chart audits quarterly.
- Performs related work as required or requested by physicians, or administrators.
- Practices and adheres to HIPPA regulations.
Qualifications and specifications:
- Education-High School Diploma, some college preferred.
- Maintaining coding certification.
- Attending seminars as need or requested by the administrator.
- Skills in greeting physicians and answering phones in a helpful manner.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Skills in dealing with interpersonal issues and patient relations.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities without supervision.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
