Responsible for supervising the work of staff who review, interpret, code and abstract medical records information according to standard classification systems; performs the most advanced medical records coding and abstraction duties; performs data quality reviews and prepares complex reports as required; and performs other related duties as assigned. Principal Accountabilities include promoting Coding Audit department goals by selecting, motivating, and training capable team members, leading the activities of assigned Coding Audit team members by communicating and providing guidance toward achieving department objectives, assisting in analyzing common operational definition of metrics and assisting in the development of regional reports to monitor individual hospitals in one database and developing processes to integrate clinical department managers in correction and resubmission of medical records, assisting with the development of tools to track performance including daily reports that track coding operations contribution to the DNFB, including progress toward the resolution of holds; an applies data driven methodologies to understand the current state of coding operations relating to individual hospitals, compiling data into reports to identify trends and patterns in procedures; providing regional and local metric information for organization communications, evaluating and implementing systems, mechanisms, and procedures that, and ensuring timely placement of documents in patient medical record, measuring adherence of system(s) developed, handling delays and errors; ensuring adherence to high quality Medical Records standards, assisting the leadership in development of performance goals, dashboards and medical record chart assembly / delivery procedures; utilizing and reviewing tools to track and monitor the prompt resolution of holds and non-coded accounts, collaborating with site leadership to prioritize, schedule, assign, and monitor work to optimize operational services; maintaining compliance with the policies, procedures and regulations of Medical Records; informing and educating staff of regulatory changes, as needed, communicating case write-offs with senior leadership and Business Offices; supervising, hiring, training, disciplining, and evaluating the performance of staff; ensuring performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner, prioritizing, scheduling, assigning and monitoring work to optimize operational services; participating in developing and delivering training related to operations, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required: Associate's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Current Professional Coder Certification, CCS required. 4-6 years of relevant experience and 0-2 years of leadership/management experience required.
