  • Location: Remote - serve the Cambridge, MA (02138) / Boston area healthcare market from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Shifts per Week: 5
  • Shift Duration: 8 hours
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,310 - $1,410
  • Start Date: June 3, 2026
  • Contract Duration: 52 weeks
Job Requirements / Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of professional fee medical coding experience, preferably in Orthopedic and/or Neurosurgical specialties
  • Active coding certification required (CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or equivalent)
  • Advanced understanding of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, NCCI edits, global surgery rules, and physician coding guidelines
  • Experience coding complex surgical cases, operative reports, and E/M encounters for physicians
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet productivity and quality expectations in a high-volume coding environment
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills; experience with documentation improvement and denial review preferred
Responsibilities
  • Review and accurately code professional fee services, including complex orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures and applicable E/M visits
  • Assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and modifier codes in accordance with official coding guidelines, payer rules, and compliance standards
  • Analyze physician documentation to ensure correct code assignment and identify opportunities for clinical documentation improvement (CDI)
  • Apply advanced surgical coding knowledge, global surgery rules, NCCI edits, and reimbursement methodologies to maximize accurate reimbursement
  • Support coding quality initiatives: perform audits, participate in denial review, and contribute to coding accuracy and KPI improvements
  • Collaborate with providers, CDI specialists, and revenue cycle stakeholders to resolve coding questions and documentation concerns
  • Maintain consistent productivity while ensuring coding accuracy in a fast-paced clinical environment
