The unit is one of the "newest" units in the hospital as it originally opened in 2021 to accommodate covid patients and has transitioned into a comprehensive Medical/Surgical unit. Atrium Health Cabarrus is the only hospital in the county of Cabarrus and is northeast of the largest city in NC, so the unit was needed to form to meet the increased hospital census needs.
