Employment Type: Full-Time (Contract)
Salary Range: $32–$38/hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Position Overview:

Loyal Source Government Services is seeking experienced Medical Coder III professionals to provide single path coding services at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. This role involves coding both facility and professional services using a unified platform and requires expertise in inpatient coding across a wide range of medical specialties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assign accurate E&M, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers for inpatient facility discharges, professional services, surgical procedures, and ERSA encounters
• Review medical records to resolve documentation inconsistencies and ensure accurate coding
• Provide feedback and education to providers and clinical staff to support documentation and coding compliance
• Respond to provider inquiries and offer coding guidance and reference materials
• Collaborate with auditors, trainers, and compliance specialists to support coding accuracy and education
• Utilize MHS systems to remotely access and code patient records for other Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) as directed
• Maintain productivity and accuracy standards set by the Defense Health Agency (DHA)

Qualifications:

Education:
Completion of one of the following:

• Associate’s degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or biological science
• University certificate in medical coding
• 30+ semester hours of relevant college coursework
• Completion of AAPC or AHIMA coding certification prep course
• Military medical training program beyond apprentice level

Certifications (Required):

• Professional Coding: CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P OR
• Institutional Coding: CIC or CCS
