Medical Records Technician (Coder) This position is located in the Health Information Management (HIM) section at the Iowa City VA Health Care Systems (ICVAHCS). The Medical Records Technician (Coder) is responsible for the technical duties related to abstracting medical record data and assigning codes using current clinical classifications systems appropriate for the type of care provided.

About The Position This position is located at the Directorate of Administration - Patient Administration at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.

MRTs (Coder) are skilled in classifying medical data from patient health records in the hospital setting, and/or physician-based settings, such as physician offices, group practices, multi-specialty clinics, alpha-numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure.

MRTs (Coder) are skilled in classifying medical data from patient health records in the hospital setting, and/or physician-based settings, such as physician offices, group practices, multi-specialty clinics, and specialty centers.

Health Information Management Service This position is in the Health Information Management Service (HIMS) within the Business Office at the VA New Jersey Healthcare System located at either the East Orange or Lyons Campus. New Jersey Healthcare System is a Level 2 facility and ranks among a complex system in the Department of Veteran Affairs serving the New York/New Jersey VISN 2 Network.

Health Information Management (HIM) Section MRTs (Coder) Auditor classify medical data from patient records in hospitals and physician settings, such as clinics and specialty centers. They analyze health records and assign codes for diagnoses and procedures using ICD, CPT, and HCPCS systems. They may also provide education on coding and documentation practices.
