Position Summary
The Medical Biller/ Collector plays a critical role in the revenue cycle. This position is responsible for accurately coding medical services, verifying insurance, submitting claims, and ensuring timely and compliant billing practices.
Duties
- Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for surgeries, procedures, office visits, and consultations.
- Prepare and submit claims for services provided by general surgeons and physician assistants in clinical, ASC, and hospital settings.
- Post insurance and patient payments and reconcile patient accounts accurately.
- Generate and distribute patient statements; explain balances, co-pays, and insurance payments as needed.
- Monitor and follow up on unpaid or denied claims; resolve discrepancies with insurance companies and patients.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (additional education or training in medical billing/coding preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding, with a strong preference for experience in general surgery, ASC, or acute care.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Thorough understanding of insurance processes, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial plans.
