Medical Billing Supervisor
Position Overview:
The Medical Billing Supervisor oversees the medical billing department's daily operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of claims and payments. This role involves supervising billing staff, optimizing billing processes, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The supervisor acts as a liaison between the billing team, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to resolve issues and maintain efficient workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision and Leadership:
- Manage and mentor a team of medical billing specialists.
- Assign and monitor workloads to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and facilitate training for staff.
- Billing and Claims Management:
- Oversee the preparation, submission, and follow-up of insurance claims.
- Ensure proper coding of medical procedures and diagnoses (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).
- Resolve billing discrepancies and denied claims promptly.
- Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, HIPAA standards, and insurance requirements.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing and coding guidelines.
- Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze billing reports to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), such as days in accounts receivable and claim denial rates.
- Identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement in the billing process.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Act as a point of contact for providers, patients, and insurance companies regarding billing issues.
- Facilitate effective communication between the billing team and clinical staff.
- Process Improvement:
- Develop and implement strategies to improve billing accuracy, reduce errors, and optimize revenue cycle performance.
- Streamline workflows and adopt new technologies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in medical billing, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proficiency in billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Certifications: Certified Professional Biller (CPB), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent credentials preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medical billing and coding procedures, insurance regulations, and revenue cycle management.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and billing software tools.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment:
- Office-based role with occasional remote work flexibility depending on organizational policies.
- May require extended hours during peak billing cycles or audits.
Salary Range:
$45-$60k per year.
