JOB DESCRIPTION: The Hospital Inpatient Coder III uses clinical coding knowledge based on the Official Coding Conventions guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic, to assign ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 codes to the highest level of accuracy for each inpatient encounter. Works closely with physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialist, quality, and patient finance staff. Plays a key role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance. Ensures accuracy of DRGs and appropriate extraction of core data into HIM abstracting system to data warehouse repository. Facilitates accurate data for patient acuity, severity of illness, and quality outcomes.
