As an outpatient coder you will play an essential role in maintaining accurate and complete code assignment for emergency department patients. Following established guidelines and conventions. This will include coding Evaluation and management levels, as well as CPT codes for any procedures performed. As a remote coder you will need to work independently while maintaining accuracy and productivity requirements.
Responsibilities
· Analyze patient medical records and interpret documentation.
· Assign accurate ICD-10 diagnosis codes.
· Assign Evaluation and Management levels.
· Assign accurate CPT procedure codes.
· Ability to work remotely.
· Maintain up-to- date knowledge.
· Participation in coding department meetings and educational events.
· Query physicians when appropriate.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Maintain coding credential requirements.
Education/ Experience
· Highschool Diploma/ GED (or higher)
· Professional coder with certification with credentialing from AHIMA, and/or AAPC to be maintained annually.
· 1 + year experience.
· Experience with ICD-10, CPT, and NCCI edits, and modifier edits.
· Strong preference for candidates with experience in coding professional services that take place in the emergency department.
· Proficiency in technology and experience with multi- systems. Ability to use a PC in a Windows environment. Microsoft excel, and EMR systems.
