Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, the Experienced Outpatient Medical Record Coder will select and assign accurate codes from coding systems including ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes. Responsibilities Assign ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes with modifiers for services provided in the facility environment. Review the medical record and all applicable documentation to determine the appropriate codes for services and diagnoses. Utilize coding resources and reference materials to ensure accuracy in coding for all assigned services. Follow HIPAA regulations and uphold a high standard around privacy requirements. Demonstrate technical competence to use the facility encoder as it interfaces with the hospital mainframe and/or EMR in a remote setting. Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office, Citrix and Adobe Reader, using required computer systems with minimal assistance.
