Job Summary: Under indirect supervision, the Lead Coder is responsible for leading, training, coordinating, and reviewing the work of assigned coders and other staff requiring assistance, advice, instruction, training, and in-service education in coding and abstracting. The Lead Coder is expected to code inpatient and all outpatient services, diagnoses, procedures, and conditions using appropriate documentation from medical records and classification systems such as ICD-CM (PCS, CPI*), HCPCS, and other specialty systems as required by diagnostic and procedural needs.
All work must adhere to current ICD-CM/PCS guidelines, Coding Clinic publications by the American Hospital Association, CPT, CMS, NCCI edits, OSHPD, and Kaiser Permanente's organizational coding guidelines.
