The coder assigns ICD-9- and ICD-10 CM and/or HCPCS codes, creating APC or DRG group assignment for reimbursement purposes. Requires skill in the sequencing of diagnoses/ procedures to optimize reimbursement. Must be able to read and interpret operative reports, history and physicals, physician orders, and pathology reports to determine the correct CPT and diagnosis coding.
